Drop a product image. See whether it meets Meta's catalog ad image specs, and how the feed, the 4:5 card and Stories and Reels will crop it. Free, in your browser, nothing uploaded.
Drop a product image
JPEG or PNG. The file stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and we never see it.
What it checks, and where the numbers come from
Every rule comes from Meta's own product image specifications page, read on October 7, 2026. Where Meta gives no number, the tool says so instead of making one up.
| Check | What Meta says |
|---|---|
| Format | JPEG or PNG. JPEG preferred. |
| File size | 8 MB at most. |
| Size | At least 500 x 500 for shops. 1024 x 1024 recommended. |
| Ratio | 1:1 or 4:5, the same ratio across a carousel, or Meta may adjust the images. |
| Crop | The default setting fills the frame, so edges are cut on other ratios. |
The full spec table, the crop settings in Commerce Manager and the URL rule for replaced images are in catalog ad image size and specs.
What to do with the result
- Under 500 on a side: get a bigger export from your product photos. Meta will not use it for shops.
- Under 1024: it works, but a 1080 square looks sharper on a phone and passes every Meta number.
- Not 1:1 or 4:5: crop it to one of those and use the same ratio for every product.
- Over 8 MB: export as JPEG at 1080 x 1080. That is usually under 1 MB.
- Text or a badge inside the tall crop bands: move it toward the middle. Read catalog ad design for where the price, badge and rating should sit.
Check the whole catalog instead
One image at a time is fine for a test. For a store, the fix is to render every product the same way. Convinci reads your Shopify store and draws your logo, price, sale badge and rating onto every product at 1080 x 1080. Paste your store link into the free preview to see your own products as cards. Plans are on the pricing page.
Questions
- What does the catalog ad image checker test?
- Four things from Meta's product image specs page: the format (JPEG or PNG), the file size (8 MB at most), the size (at least 500 x 500, with 1024 x 1024 recommended) and the ratio (1:1 or 4:5). It then shows the image cropped to 1:1, 4:5 and 9:16.
- Is my image uploaded anywhere?
- No. The browser reads the file and reports its width, height, size and type. The image never leaves your device, and nothing is stored.
- What size should a Meta catalog ad image be?
- Meta's minimum for shops is 500 x 500 and it recommends 1024 x 1024. Use square 1:1 or 4:5, the same ratio for every product, as a JPEG under 8 MB. We render at 1080 x 1080, which meets every number.
- Why do the Stories and Reels crops have bands on them?
- Stories and Reels put the profile name at the top and the buttons and caption at the bottom, over the image. Meta does not publish the exact pixels, so the bands are our own guide. Keep prices, badges and logos out of them.
- Can I check a whole catalog at once?
- This tool checks one image at a time. To see every product in your Shopify store as a finished catalog ad card, paste your store link into the free preview on the home page.
